Russell M. Pry was sworn in as Summit County Executive on July 13, 2007. As Executive, Russ Pry serves as the chief executive officer of county government, with an annual budget of nearly $488 million. County departments under the Executive’s authority include: Administrative Services, Communications, Community and Economic Development, Environmental Services, Finance and Budget, Human Resources, Job and Family Services, Law, Insurance and Risk Management, and the Medical Examiner.
Since being appointed to the position of Executive, Russ Pry has focused a significant amount of efforts on improving local economic development. As a result, Executive Pry, along with city and state officials, played a leading role in keeping Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations Technical Center and the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Global and North American Headquarters and Innovation Center in Akron. Together, both projects will ensure that 3,900 jobs remain in Summit County.
In addition to keeping big name employers in our community, Pry collaborated with FirstEnergy, the Development Finance Authority of Summit County, Akron Children's Hospital, Summa Health System, Akron General Medical Center, NEOMED, The University of Akron and the State of Ohio to convert a county owned building into a new, state-of-the-art headquarter facility for The Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron (ABIA). Over the next ten years, the ABIA intends to create 2,000 jobs and attract millions of dollars in research, investment and commercialization to the community.
Russell M. Pry, a lifelong resident of Summit County, has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Kent State University and obtained a Juris Doctorate from The University of Akron, School of Law in 1984. He currently resides in Akron.
