This is technical work in demolition and site improvement inspection programs, skilled work in the operation of moderately complex automotive equipment and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of City owned buildings and property.
An employee in this class conducts the field inspection of contractor demolition of structures and provides grounds maintenance and minor building maintenance for properties acquired by the City.
Work is carried out in cooperation with senior inspection personnel and with opportunity for use of independent judgment in performing the duties and responsibilities of the job.


Graduation from an accredited high school or GED and a minimum of three years of paid building demolition or related training or paid experience. THE EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT MEANS THAT YOU MAY SUBSTITUTE UP TO 50% OF PAID EXPERIENCE WITH RELATED TRAINING. Possession of a valid State of Ohio driver's license.
Knowledge of the rules, regulations, methods, tools, equipment, materials, hazards and safety precautions related to demolition, clearance and property maintenance work.
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications in relation to demolition activity and to detect deviations from contract specifications. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time in all types of weather. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with utility companies, contractors and the general public. Skill in the use of various hand held and heavy equipment used for maintaining vacant properties and for minor maintenance and repair to buildings. Preferred Skills

Inspects all phases of demolition and site clearance, assuring that the job is being done according to specifications, that maximum safety precautions are observed, and that applicable provisions of the City code are enforced. Assures that sewers and laterals are plugged, basement floors are broken up, that proper backfill material is used, and that the cleared site is left in proper condition. Sees that dust is controlled during the demolition process. Operates tractor and push mower for mowing vacant lots owned by City. Performs litter control and minor maintenance repair for City owned buildings and property. Secure buildings by installing plywood on windows, doors and other openings in preparation for demolition. Makes regular inspections of cleared land in project areas to assure that the land is not being misused. Keeps detailed records of labor and equipment hours worked daily by the contractor crew. Gathers routine pay information from contractors to satisfy federal contracting requirements. Maintains daily and monthly progress reports on assigned jobs. Performs related work as required.
