Environmental Sustainability Efforts

The Environmental Management program provides DSSS the framework to set up an effective Environmental Management System (EMS). This process will help DSSS minimize how our operations impact the environment, comply with applicable laws and environmental obligations, and continually improve our environmental performance.  An effective EMS will help minimize our regulatory and environmental liability, improve our organizational efficiency, reduce the consumption of resources, and reduce operating costs.  A primary challenge for this program is implementation of the continual improvement concept, with the expectation DSSS will move away from merely operational environmental measures towards a more strategic approach on how to deal with environmental challenges.

Why do we want to do this?  The main reason is to reduce our environmental impact.  Certifying our EMS to the ISO 14001:2015 standard serves as a driver and a reminder that DSSS is committed to protecting the environment by preventing pollution and continually improving the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the earth we inhabit.

To minimize environmental impacts DSSS shall:

Comply with laws, regulations, and other requirements to which DSSS subscribes, which relate to its environmental aspects;

Prevent pollution through the identification and implementation of best management practices;

Continually work to conserve resources through waste prevention, reduction, reuse, and recycling;

Provide employees the resources required to practice environmental stewardship in their daily roles, and heighten their awareness of environmental issues through the communication of this policy, training and written guidance on management and work practices;

Continually improve environmental performance through proactive environmental management and routine assessment of our performance; and

Provide a framework to utilize an environmental management system for operations.
